A significant milestone in the educational ministry of the Capuchin Province of Karnataka was marked with the inauguration of St. Anthony's Global Academy (SAGA) at Kengeri, Bengaluru. Envisioned as a dream project of the Capuchin Province, the Academy stands as a testament to the Province's commitment to providing holistic, value-based education rooted in academic excellence and Gospel values.
The institution was formally inaugurated by Shri S. T. Somashekar, MLA, Yeshwanthpur Constituency, while the Academy was solemnly blessed and the inaugural ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr. Robin Victor D'Souza, OFM Cap, Provincial Minister of the Capuchin Province of Karnataka. The occasion was graced by several distinguished guests, including Smt. Sharada Muniraju M., Corporator, BBMP; Shri Jagadeesh N., Police Inspector, Kengeri; and Shri K. M. Siddaramu, President of the BDA Layout Association. Their presence added significance to this landmark event in the history of Capuchin education.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries appreciated the Capuchin Friars for their vision and dedication in establishing an institution committed to academic excellence, character formation, and social responsibility. They expressed confidence that St. Anthony's Global Academy would emerge as a premier centre of learning, nurturing young minds to become responsible citizens, compassionate leaders, and lifelong learners.
The event was conceived and coordinated under the leadership of Rev. Dr Fr. Charles J. R. Furtado, OFM Cap, Executive Secretary of the Capuchin Education Board and Director of St. Anthony's Institutions and the Principal, Rev. Dr Fr. Anil Dcosta. A special moment during the celebration was the felicitation of Rev. Fr. Alwyn Dias, OFM Cap and Rev. Fr. Vincent Furtado, OFM Cap, former Provincial Ministers, in recognition of their invaluable support and contribution towards the educational mission of the Province. The inaugural celebration witnessed the enthusiastic participation of priests, religious, Capuchin friars, neighbouring parish priests, benefactors, parents, members of the local community, and numerous well-wishers, making it a memorable occasion of thanksgiving and fellowship.
The Academy has begun its very first academic year on a promising note with an enrolment of 105 students, from Montessori to Grade VII. This encouraging response reflects the trust and confidence that parents have placed in the institution's vision of nurturing children through quality education and holistic development. Within a short span of its establishment, St. Anthony's Global Academy has already initiated several enriching programmes, including a Teachers' Orientation Programme at Christ University, a Grand School Opening Ceremony, World Environment Day, International Yoga Day, and the Investiture Ceremony, fostering leadership, environmental awareness, discipline, and the all-round development of its students.
